How to Tap: A Gentle Introduction
Tapping (EFT) is a simple practice with powerful effects. It has three simple steps.
Step 1: Identify What’s Coming Up?
You don’t have to explain or analyze — just tune in. Are you feeling anxious, frustrated, tired, disconnected? That feeling is where we begin. For example: "I feel like I'm failing," or "There's a heaviness I can't shake."
Step 2: Evaluate How Strong Is It? (0-10)
This is called the SUDS scale (Subjective Units of Distress). 0 is totally calm, and 10 is the maximum intensity. Take a breath, check in, and rate how strong that feeling is right now. It’s just a snapshot.
Step 3: Begin Tapping
First, create a Setup Statement. You say it 3 times while tapping the side of your hand (the "karate chop" point). It acknowledges the problem while affirming self-acceptance.
Then, tap through the points repeating a short Reminder Phrase that names the issue (e.g., "this anger," "this pressure").
When you finish a round, take a breath. Check your 0-10 number again.
Notice what has shifted.
Basic Tapping Practice
This is the foundational formula. It's simple and effective.
Setup Phrase Formula:
"Even though I [have this problem], I [positive affirmation]."
Example:
"Even though I'm stressed from my day, I accept how I feel."

Advanced Tapping Practice
As you get comfortable, you can use more intuitive phrases and different types of Setup Statements.
Setup Phrase Examples:
1. Acceptance (The Classic)
"Even though I’m carrying more than I show, I deeply and completely accept myself."
2. Making a Choice
"Even though I'm feeling this pressure, I choose to feel a little more ease."
3. Introducing Wonder
"Even though a part of me feels stuck, I wonder if I can begin to soften."
