Scope of Work for EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Practitioners
Introduction
This document outlines EmoAlchemy’s scope of work as practitioners of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as “tapping.” It serves to inform clients of the role of an EFT practitioner, what they can expect during sessions, and the limitations of this modality. This document is not a substitute for legal or medical advice.
What EFT Practitioners Can Do
EFT is a holistic stress-reduction technique combining elements of cognitive therapy and somatic stimulation. Practitioners can assist clients in the following ways:
- Emotional Support:
- Helping clients identify and process negative emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
- Facilitating emotional release and promoting mental clarity.
- Stress Reduction:
- Guiding clients through tapping sequences to manage stress and promote relaxation.
- Assisting in alleviating physical manifestations of stress, such as tension or fatigue.
- Behavioral Change:
- Supporting clients in addressing emotional triggers behind habits, cravings, or other behavioral patterns.
- Goal Alignment:
- Assisting clients in clarifying goals and addressing emotional barriers to personal growth and success.
What EFT Practitioners Cannot Do
While EFT is a valuable tool, it has limitations. Practitioners do not replace licensed medical or mental health professionals. Specifically, practitioners:
- Do Not Diagnose:
- EFT practitioners are not qualified to diagnose medical or psychological conditions.
- Clients should consult licensed healthcare providers for diagnostic services.
- Do Not Treat Severe Mental Health Disorders:
- Conditions such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia require care from licensed mental health professionals.
- EFT practitioners will refer clients to appropriate professionals if such conditions are present.
- Do Not Provide Medical Treatment:
- EFT is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Clients experiencing physical health issues should seek the guidance of qualified medical professionals.
- Practitioners may work alongside healthcare providers to complement, but not replace, medical treatments.
- Do Not Make Guarantees:
- EFT is a complementary technique, and individual results may vary. Practitioners cannot guarantee specific outcomes.
Ethical Guidelines and Client Rights
EFT practitioners adhere to ethical standards to ensure client safety and maintain professional integrity. These include:
- Informed Consent:
- Clients will receive a clear explanation of EFT, including its potential benefits and limitations, prior to starting sessions.
- Practitioners will answer any questions to ensure clients feel comfortable and informed.
- Confidentiality:
- Client information will be kept confidential, except where disclosure is required by law.
- Referral Practices:
- Practitioners will refer clients to appropriate medical or mental health professionals when their needs exceed the scope of EFT.
- Professional Boundaries:
- Practitioners will work within their level of training and expertise and will not practice beyond their qualifications.
Acknowledgment of Understanding
By engaging in EFT sessions, clients acknowledge their understanding of the scope of work as described in this document. They agree to:
- Take personal responsibility for their participation in EFT sessions.
- Consult with licensed healthcare professionals as needed for medical or psychological conditions.
- Notify their practitioner if they experience severe emotional or physical symptoms during or after EFT sessions.
Disclaimer
EFT is considered an alternative or complementary modality and is not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment. While there is research supporting its benefits, EFT is not guaranteed to produce specific results and should be used at the client’s discretion.
