The moment before the click

It is 9:58 a.m. The cursor hangs over Post. Your note is simple and honest, something like What I still do not know about pricing. Your breath sits a little high. Palms cool. You care about being useful. You also do not want to flood your system, blow past your pace, or wake up in an old pattern of overexposure followed by retreat.

If that feels familiar, you are not behind. Nothing is wrong with you. Visibility is not only about content or platforms. It is a body skill. It gets easier when you practice small, repeatable reps that keep you close to your values and your pace.

Why tiny reps build real capacity

Big leaps can feel decisive in the moment, yet they often teach the nervous system that visibility equals threat. That is why a burst of posting can be followed by a quiet crash. Tiny reps work differently. They cue safety while adding a two percent stretch, which keeps arousal in the workable middle. Repetition inside that band is what grows capacity.

This is not about tricking yourself. It is about honoring the signals your body sends, then steadily teaching it that being seen can be safe enough. The values piece matters too. When you know why you are showing up, second guessing tends to loosen. Your actions line up with what you care about, not with what the algorithm demands.

The 3×2 Visibility Rep

Use this as a single, repeatable action. It should take about three minutes from start to finish.

  1. Ground your body.
  • Place both feet on the floor, knees soft. Press the soles down for five slow seconds.
  • Breathe in for a count of four, breathe out for a count of six. Do this three cycles.
  • Unclench your jaw. Drop your shoulders an inch.
  1. Name your value aloud.
  • One line, spoken quietly: Be useful, be honest. Or Service over polish. Choose words that feel true, not fancy.
  1. Take a two percent stretch within two minutes.
  • Pick the smallest viable action, then touch the button once and close the tab. Examples:
  • Post to connections only.
  • Schedule the post for later today instead of publishing now.
  • Leave a one sentence comment on a peer’s post that links to your draft.
  • Share an image without a long caption, just a clear sentence.
  1. Log the intensity.
  • Scan your body and give it a number from 1 to 10. Aim to work around a steady 4 to 6 most days.

That is the whole rep. Repeat it two or three times this week. Do not increase the challenge until your body reads calm to steady in that 4 to 6 range.

Set an exposure dial you can trust

It helps to define a visible dial from 1 to 5. This is your scale, not a standard.

  • Dial 1: Private practice. Draft a note and read it aloud to yourself.
  • Dial 2: Semi-private. Post to connections only, a small Slack channel, or a low-traffic story.
  • Dial 3: Light public. Comment once on a peer’s post, or publish a short post without hashtags.
  • Dial 4: Standard public. Publish a post to Everyone, or send a simple newsletter segment.
  • Dial 5: Amplified public. Publish and invite shares, or speak live to a small group.

Today, choose one channel and one step at dial 2 or 3. Hold steady there until the body intensity sits near 4 to 6. Only move the dial up one click per week, and only if your body stays steady at the current level.

Choose your two percent stretch

Two percent is intentionally small. It is the difference between doing nothing and doing the lightest viable something. Examples:

  • If you usually lurk, write a one sentence comment that names what was helpful.
  • If you usually post walls of text, share a single insight in three sentences.
  • If you usually hide the ask, add a gentle line like If this was useful, I am open to questions.
  • If you usually fear reach, limit the audience to connections or a specific group.

Two percent keeps the door open without inviting a flood.

A simple way to track without judgment

End your rep with a note that takes less than one minute. You can use a sticky note or a short line in your phone.

  • What I did: Commented one sentence on a pricing thread.
  • Intensity: 5 out of 10. Chest steady, hands a little buzzy.
  • Aligned with values: Yes. Said what I know, not what I think I should say.

Another day, you might write: Scheduled a post for later. Intensity 7. Felt tight after. Next time I will post to connections only. The tone here matters. You are not grading yourself. You are learning your edges.

What progress can look like over two weeks

Micro-scene: End of day, the coffee mug ring on your desk has dried. You glance at your tracker. Four entries. Two were a 6, one was a 5, one pushed to a 7. You notice that when you named your value first, the number dropped a point. You also notice that closing the tab right after posting kept the rest of your morning clear.

Across two weeks, the sequence often shifts from braced to workable to ordinary. Not heroic. Ordinary. That is a good sign.
